The Photovoltaic effect works when photons of light from the sun hit electrons in the PV panel, exciting them into a higher state of energy that produces electricity. PV modules can be mounted on the pitched or flat roof of a building and can also be ground mounted in rural areas. Modules are installed in an array that gathers sunlight and ultra violet radiation and converts it into direct current (DC) electricity. The PV system includes an inverter that takes the DC energy and converts it into alternating current (AC) energy that you can use to power your home, farm or business.
